The monument was opened on August the 14th in 2001. The sculptors are Y. Neyman, V. Sveshnikov. The architect is G. Chelbogashev. It’s noble by itself, but boring, plain and regular. Still there’s a piece of informality about it. For instance, the foreigners adorably and delightfully recognize Ivan the Terrible in Turgenev. They’re not embarrassed even with the wrong clothes style. By the way, when reading the memories about Turgenev, we find out that he didn’t like wearing beautiful and fanciful clothes. He liked free and plain clothing.

His character is mysteriously reflected in the monument. The coat, which the monument of Turgenev is wearing, has one flap longer. It’s clearly seen without a ruler. If only we could make this Turgenev stand up, everyone would be shocked with his jacket make. But generally, we don’t have anything against the monument, just to its little oddities.

Let’s just remember that we love Turgenev not only for this.
