The sculpture "Pioneers" is in the central courtyard of the oldest in Russia Children's Hospital - in the XIX century it was the Emperor Nicholas Hospital, in the XX Century - Children's Hospital of Infectious Diseases named after Filatov. In Soviet times, these sculptures were not uncommon, but now it is a rarity, especially in such good state. Education by labour was the mandatory requirements of the Soviet school, so young vignerons, cotton growers etc were welcomed. Often children were used in harvesting; a well-known saying goes like "went at the potatoes."
