The common phrase “it has been built for ages” can be applied to many buildings in St.Petersburg, and K. Zigel’s factory buildings, in particular (1888-1902). The architects I. Kitner and R. Berzen have built up a regular waste ground with the beautiful buildings in so-called “brick style” (mechanic workshops and the living blocks). A high-quality brick has been used there, as the architect supposed the open brick setting to be more durable than plaster in the wet weather of St. Petersburg. There was used terra cotta and natural stone in the phasades decoration.
At the main entrance there were placed two bronze bears holding the tree trunks with the lamp-posts. The bears molding by the sculptor A. Ober’s model was made on the famous F. San-Galli’s iron foundry.
