A philosophical place where philosophy is dead, but the thoughts of it are alive. It is a museum-necropolis. Mendeleev, Turgenev, Blok, Goncharov, Saltykov-Schedrin, Leskov, Bekhterev, Pavlov, and some others are buried here. The gravestones are by themselves works of art; and those who in the old days were people of art now lie underneath.
The cemetery was founded in the middle of the XVIII century. The name "boardwalks" was given because the cemetery was dirty and the paths between the graves were covered with boards. After 1848 when critic Belinsky was buried here it became a tradition to bury other writers nearby, and the boardwalks became known as Literatorskie (Literary). Just across the road a Lutheran cemetery is located.
Address: Volkovskaya metro station.
How to reach: from Volkovskaya metro station two stops by any tram towards Ligovsky Pospect metro station (from the railway bridge).
