The hooligans who mark the monuments have been common not only nowadays, but long ago, too. There’s a legend that on Nicolas I monument in St. Petersburg has got the word ЙУХ (KCUF) cast on it. It’s said that they tried to remove it while the last renovation of the monument, but didn’t succeed. To tell more, there’s the same word cast on the monument to “Millennium of Russia” in Veliky Novgorod (Novgorod the Great). The signs can’t be seen just like this, you’ll need the binoculars or a camera with a good lens to see them. On the monument in Novgorod the Great the letters have been found above Nestor’s figure, the first Russian chronicler, the reputed author of the Primary Chronicle, (the earliest East Slavic chronicle). That’s pretty symbolic, as it was Nestor who got across the Russian words to the people.
But it’s not known where exactly the letters on the Nicolas I monument are situated. I’d be glad to see it. The most interesting part is that both the monuments are approximately the same age. Maybe anyone else’s aware of the similar monuments with the ‘people’s mark’ on them?

— Это больше похоже не хулиганство, а нечто вроде пасхального яйца или пасхалки которые встречаются в компьютерных играх или фильмах. Они обычно скрыты из поля зрения и чтобы их обнаружить, нужно постараться. Пасхальные яйца в компьютерных играх или фильмах играют роль своеобразных шуток от создателей, для внимательных игроков или зрителей.
