This sculpture is located in the yard of philological department of Saint-Petersburg State University on the porch of the department of simultaneous interpretation.

Hippopotamus, named “Tonya” is made of bronze, 25 cm of width and 35 cm of length. Many world cultures and traditions consider hippopotamus as a symbol of power, prosperity, might and unity. The author of the idea Sergey Bogdanov believes that hippopotamuses are those who bring good luck to both the students and professors. He hopes that Tonya will create new traditions at the department. Indeed, the right Tonya’s ear became golden: it is said that rubbing the ear helps the girls to get married ?.

How to reach: from metro station “Vasyleostrovskaya”, on foot.
